Global Canopy aims to end large-scale deforestation, a global problem with huge hidden costs for people and prosperity.

We focus on the big market levers driving deforestation at regional, national and international levels, – the governments, businesses and financial institutions worldwide – with the power to end the global ‘deforestation economy’.

Reporting into the Executive Director we are seeking a Head of Sustainable Supply Chains Programme for a 15 month maternity cover contract (with the potential to become a permanent member of staff). The start date is negotiable, but ideally within the next 2 months, flexible working is available.

As Head of Sustainable Supply Chains Programme you will lead and work closely with Trase staff at the Stockholm Environment Institute, and other collaborating organisations worldwide, to bring unprecedented transparency to forest-risk supply chains, helping governments, companies, financial institutions and others to identify and act upon the most pressing risks and capitalise on the greatest opportunities for sustainability.

We see you bringing to the role experience in an equivalent senior role in the environment, economics or supply chain sector, having developed and led complex projects with multiple partners across countries

It is desirable to bring knowledge of ‘forest risk’ supply chains and trade (major commodities such as soy, beef, palm oil, pulp and paper), and the broader forests and climate agenda.

About Global Canopy Programme

GLOBAL CANOPY and TRASE

Global Canopy is an agile and entrepreneurial charity with an outsized impact. Our aim is to end large-scale deforestation, a global problem with huge hidden costs for people and prosperity.

We focus on the big market levers driving deforestation at regional, national and international levels. And we bring a fresh approach to identifying, targeting, and mobilising action among the key powerbrokers - the governments, businesses and financial institutions worldwide - with the power to end the global ‘deforestation economy’.

Global Canopy is a founding partner of Trase (Transparency for Sustainable Economies – www.trase.earth) with the Stockholm Environment Institute. Trase is a ground-breaking sustainability platform, enabling governments, companies, investors and others to better understand and address the environmental and social impacts linked to their supply chains. It draws on vast sets of production, trade and customs data, for the first time laying bare the flows of globally-traded commodities. It comes as a direct response to the ambitious commitments made by leaders across sectors to achieve deforestation-free supply chains by 2020 – and the urgent need this creates for a breakthrough in assessing and monitoring sustainability performance. First launched in 2016, Trase is pursuing an ambitious 5-year strategy, growing rapidly and expanding from an initial focus on soy and cattle in Latin America, to take in Indonesian palm oil next year, and up to 80% of ‘forest risk commodities’ by 2020.
